Wood dyes
Tiger Kit wood dyes are easy to use. They dissolve in water or alcohol and can be wiped on with a cloth.
Currently they are available on Ebay and Amazon whilst we perform some upgrades on the production equipment.

Powder Dye Info Sheet
These dyes allow you to achieve the right colour with just one application. Tiger kit bright colours have extremely clean hues and allow for very intense colours to be created. Some dye sachets are labelled to aid identification.
Prep
Always try to do a test or two on an inconspicuous area or a scrap piece of wood. Start with a very small amount of water to gauge the right ratio of pigment to add to the water.
Sand the wood to a quite a fine grade evens out the surface absorbency and allows the dye to soak in easily. The rougher the finish the more the wood grabs the stain. Pine and other soft woods are quite absorbent will absorb even when very smooth, some hard woods occasionally are best sanded only to a p240 or p180 sandpaper grade .
The wood can be lightened with a wash of white before beginning. This is worth considering especially with yellow which goes a great golden colour when applied without white and becomes more lemony in colour if a light wash of white is used beforehand; there is quite a difference between the colours. This is set against the fact that a wash of white will hide the grain a little. Any watered down water based paints are suitable.
Wear rubber gloves, something a bit thicker than transparent gloves are recommended. Please read the health and safety precautions at the bottom of the page.
Dilute with water. Generally make up a small batch, with about 100ml of water to 1g of dye and add water or more dye as needed. The dye goes very far as it is applied in very thin coats.
Tiger Kit dyes generally dissolve quickly compared to other brands making them more convenient to use, however the brown granule dye is slow to dissolve with cold water: with boiling water it dissolves in seconds (swirling around in the bottom of a jar works well).
Very much the easiest way for a professional result is to apply the dyes with a small piece of folded cloth. Chose a piece will not easily shed bits and pieces (lint free cloth ideally). Dip the pad into the dye. Squeeze out the excess and rub the pad onto the wood. There shouldn't be any dye solution left on the surface of the wood. If you have too much dye solution on the wood squeeze the pad dry, and rub again until the excess dye has been absorbed or wiped away. Keep rubbing in the direction of the grain until an even surface colour has been achieved. Once you get the hang of it this, it is a pleasing and simple process. Sponges, and sponge brushes can also be used. Brushes are not recommended. If you are doing a lot of staining a cloth covered sponge, called a staining pad might be a good investment.
Dye colours can be mixed. You can also get some attractive effects here by scorching the wood brown or black and sanding back lightly before staining. Colours can also be blended on the piece of wood, start with the light colour and then move to the darker ones. A nice worn in look can be achieved by sanding after dye has been applied and dried.
Just after dying the wood the colour may look quite dull and dark. The colour will lighten as the wood dries out. Applying varnish also enrich the colour dramatically.
To darken colours add more pigment to your dye solution and reapply. If the piece is too dark it can simply be wiped with a clean damp pad, or clean water can be repeatedly brushed over the surface. Please have a look at you tube videos for further tips and information.
Varnishing
The dyes are compatible with oils for kitchen work tops, spray on varnishes and any solvent based varnishes.
Water based varnishes are not recommended. They are generally not very durable and usually pick up stains very easily. They can be used, but good results may not be achievable and one or more tests will have to be carried out. The problem is that water based varnishes will bring back the dye into solution which may result in a streaky finish. If some water based varnish is added to the dye at 50 % level for the dye solution and it is allowed to cure it may prevent dye pick up or reduce it satisfactorily when varnishing. In tests we found results were perfect sometimes and imperfect at others, overall it is much harder to take this route compared to applying oils or a spray varnish, and we don't guarantee good results with this route.
There is quite an art to creating a high gloss finish and there are a few options. A basic guide is to sand with finer and finer grades of sandpaper as thinner and thinner coats of varnish are applied. Alternatively a high build varnish can be applied which can be sanded and polished to a finish. Colourless grain fillers and tack cloths to remove dust should also be considered. It is helpful to look at a few different you tube videos for tuition.
Colour Clarification for Multipacks
Purple, yellow, dark blue and turquoise sachets have been labelled for clarity. The other colours are as they appear, the dark green is almost black. Some of the dyes are less dense and bulkier. All sachets are 5g -7g in weight. Single colour packs also sold on Ebay and Amazon search for Tiger Kit Wood Dye. Thank you for your purchase.
